I use Norton on all my machines cos it seems thorough, but also used McAfee at one point which was pretty neat too. If you wanna delve into other areas you could try NOD Antivirus which is meant to be an industrial one.

i use norton myself as wel together with internet security from norton ............. but as soon as i have to buy a new one it's going to be kaspersky or something like that don't know how to write it..............but according to all computer mag's this is by far the best they have tested it keeps up to date all the time and doesn't use much of your computer
it's also used by many gamers according to the game magazine's
they have tested it for consumers and it's not a cheap one but it's the best
thats what they all said but i will soon find out cause
my norton is going out of date in september...............thats the only thing i'll buy for real besides a **** loads of games (it's for the company)

BlackICE is a superb firewall. On "Trusted" mode it's not too picky, but stops all major attacks. Whatever you do, don't go the Norton firewall route... it asks too many questions!!!
Also, if you do go BlackICE direction, don't enable the application protection. It's a pain in the ass!!

I been trying loads of different antivirus over the last few months inc AGV, MCfee, Norton and ZoneAlarm! Mcfee was brilliant but it uses some huge amount of app running in background scary! At the minute i'm using ZoneAlarm firewall with Antivirus V5.1! Really happy with this! Give that a go cheap 2! ZoneLabs (http://www.zonelabs.com/store/application?namespace=zls_catalog&origin=global.jsp&event=link1.catalogHome&&zl_catalog_view_id=201&lid=nav_ho) |toungue|

Zonelabs who make ZoneAlarm was taken over by Checkpoint (one of the best corporate firewalls you can get), the zonealarm product also now includes Anti-Virus from CA (Computer Associates) the AV part is based on EZ-Antivirus.
In other words it's a good product that I think in time (with 2 big players involved) will get massive support and lots of nice features soon. Already has lots to offer....
Also like to add that it works with the new Security Centre control panel that gets added when you run SP2 for XP.

And at lans it even scans the remote computers (Right red!!! lol).. Never let me down and it's only about 20 quid.. |toungue|

It doesn't have antivirus, but the firewall is reasonable.
You control it through XP security center (in Accessories)

i don't know how to work with kaspersky you have to find out and give it a go
and according to the magazine's it's slow in the beginning with scanning etc but once it has done all that it will work as a treat
less computer usage

if your scanner seems to slow your pc down too much, its more than likely just your pc showin its age, might need a faster cpu, norton don't slow my pc down unless I'm doin a full system scan

I use McAfee 8.0, I just need to get QuickClean and The latest ZoneAlarm (£12 a year or something stupid) and both are brilliant.
Also instead of IE I have been using Mozilla Firefox its a very secure browser! It don't install no third party software and prompts you if you want to install plugins etc.
its free on www.mozilla.com they have a whole Browser Suite on there too. I even use it at work and I only get a few items come up on Ad-Aware... after 3 months and I had 1 data miner and 3 bad cookies in my opinion that isn't bad.

Service Pack 2 has an updated Firewall built in, there is no Anti-Virus as such; SP2 was released with integration so that Windows can tell you the status of whatever AV you have installed even though your AV usually tells you if your definitions need updating and if you need to carry out a full scan. All these settings can be altered in the Security Centre in Control Panel, theres also a option on the left hand side of the security centre to switch off the annoying alerts as well.

- Latest versions of Mozilla, Firefox and Thunderbird
correct ten security holes -
**** Oxygen3 24h-365d, by Panda Software (http://www.pandasoftware.com)
Madrid, September 16 2004 - News.com has announced that the new versions
1.7.3 of Mozilla, 1.0 of Firefox RC and 0.8 of Thunderbird resolve ten security flaws.
Three of the vulnerabilities are considered critical, as they could allow an attacker to run arbitrary code on the affected system. The problems stem from inadequate handling of vCards, large BMP images and links including names with non-printable characters.
Other vulnerabilities have also been resolved which could allow Cross-Site Scripting, and access to and editing of data.

The 5 viruses most frequently detected by Panda ActiveScan, Panda Software's free online scanner: 1)Downloader.GK; 2)Netsky.P; 3)Mhtredir.gen; 4)Sasser.ftp; 5)StartPage.FH.

True only 4 million people worldwide the website claims! uses Mozilla Firefox 1.7.3 is the Suite I only have Mozilla Brower its 1.0 PR Preview Mode or something. Compared to the billions who use IE! which would be easier and more worthwhile hacking??
