Just lately I've been getting a "lag" effect when playing CoD, I wondered if it was the visual side of the game being too much for the PC. For the record I have an Asus MB, P4 2.53ghz CPU, 1gig Corsair 3200 Twin X DDR, my Graphic card is a PNY Geforce FX 5800 w/ 128 mb DDR onboard. I've got the graphics set about midway in regards to detail etc, I'm having a ping of anything between 30-80 on our server but there is still this choppy effect, anybody know how I do the tracert command on XP w/ SP1? I'm wondering how many "hops" this connection goes through but some sites are a little vague on the commands and what to expect, if I type (in the run window) tracert [-H maximum_hops] it comes up with the dos window but nowt in it and it disappears after maybe 5 seconds. Any ideas cos I can't play with this condition for any great length of time?

Go to Run, and type "CMD". That'll bring up a dos box.
Then do your tracert and see what happens.
If this fails, I can give you something which you can use to trace the hops between where you are and the server, and it'll run a heartbeat and show where its dropping.
Im in tomorrow, so let me know then.

Yes, I think I'm gonna need that treacle, the tracert command does actually seem to be recognised now but I don't know how to enter the variables and address correctly, I'm pretty certain that I'm entering it right but it ain't working how it should, its saying unable to resolve the target system name. I've also tried a "pathping" which works very similar: pathping [-h maximum_hops]. I'll call you later. Ta. |happy1|

Right, I've got it narrowed down after using a nifty little tool called "NeoTrace Pro". I've used this program to check my connection to our CoD server and my overall (average) ping is 30-50-ish, but one node out of 14 is spiking regular up to 700ms, to everyone else and me during the game my ping is fine but your ping is the actual average of all the nodes response times that you're going through, obviously one node going up to this high offset against thirteen all at the 30 mark is not going to show up. The node is called linx2.telecomplete.net with an IP of 195.66.226.139. Just to make sure I traced through to other CoD servers and had no lag, and to be extra sure I tried some mohaa server addresses also with no lag. I only get this node on our server, Dave who is also on the same exchange as me doesn't seem to go through this node and hence doesn't get this problem. Any ideas? Anyone? Anyone?

yesterday i had the same problem only on my trace they all had over 1800
so today i tried it again and seems that problem was still there
gave the ISP a call and they told me they would solve it (try to)
i checked my trace every hour and still fucked
arround 22:00 my connection broke down and took me about 2 hour to connect after that problem was solved
they put me over another hub or route and the problem is solved

Righto, theres a slight chance that this problem will soon be resolved. Apparently I am listed on Pipex's "older" user list, they've examined my Trace-route that I sent them and the support guy has said that one of the BT nodes is actually sending my connection back on itself and screwing it all up. So now they've told us that they will try and get us onto another "realm" and take another route using the Pipex "Extreme" service. This may change me E-mail address etc and will also change my static IP but with any luck I won't end up going through that dodgy node..... With luck...... I'll know better (hopefully) during the next five days or so.
